The Chamber of Commerce's Employment Report

Bryan McKenzie reports in this morning's Progress (here) that the the Charlottesville Regional Chamber of Commerce's just-released employment report shows a decrease, during 2008, of 1,054 jobs in the private sector (the coverage area is Charlottesville, Albemarle, Fluvanna, Louisa, Nelson and Greene).

The report identifies a total, in '08, of 73,660 private sector jobs and 30,570 public sector jobs (the public sector is deemed to include UVa and PVCC).

The Chamber predicts a continued private sector decrease in 2009 but does see hope in the stimulative effect of approximately 800 new positions at the NGIC facility at Rivanna Station.

  • Education and health services
3 industries experienced job growth:
